Launched by David Reiss in 1971, Reiss is a UK-based fashion brand and retail store chain with around 225 point of sale throughout the world. The brand has its roots in menswear and, in 2000, it launched its womenswear line. Known for its contemporary take on workwear and formalwear, the brand has won fans in both the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge.
David Reiss sold a majority stake in the firm to US private equity house Warburg Pincus in 2016 and in 2017 he handed the CEO reins to former Next product supremo Christos Angelides. Reiss retains a significant stake in the firm.
In May 2019 Warburg Pincus was reported to be planning its exit with a formal process due to kick off in the summer of 2019. However the PE firm denied it was looking for an imminent exlt at the time but reports surfaced again in January 2020 suggesting it was about to appoint bankers to oversee a sale process.
Buyout firms are said to be circling the firm, which reported sales up 8.6% to £186m in the year ending February 2019.
