Founded by Gianni Versace in 1978, Versace is an Italian luxury fashion house known worldwide for its innovative designs, symbolic flashy prints and bright colours.
In 1993, his sister Donatella, created the "Young Versace" line as well as “Versus” and, in 1994, the brand gained international coverage due to the black safety pin Versace dress worn by actress Elizabeth Hurley.
In 1997 Gianni Versace was murdered and Donatella then took over as the creative head of the business. Former Alexander McQueen CEO Jonathan Akeroyd joined the business in 2016. In 2018, the company was acquired by Michael Kors Holdings for $2.12 billion, which subsequently rebranded the group as Capri Holdings.
