Founded in 1970 on a college campus, Urban Outfitters originated as a unique retail experience and community center for young and creative customers.
Today, Urban Outfitters continues to foster that same sense of community, with around 600 stores globally which are described as "places for creative, like-minded individuals to come together, complete with restaurants, music and spaces to hang out".
As well as multi-brand clothing, Urban Outfitters is also known for selling vintage items such as polaroid cameras and VHS tapes.
The Urban Outfitters groups also owns other retail brands such as Anthropologie, Free People, Terrain, BHLDN, and The Vetri Group. In 2019 it moved into the rental space (so far US only) with subscription service Nuuly.
