Founded in 1972 by Stephen Marks, French Connection set out to create well-designed fashionable clothing that appealed to a broad market.
In 1978, French designer, Nicole Farhi, joined. In 1983, her eponymous label was launched by the French Connection parent group and this was not sold until 2010.
French Connection spent many years listed on the London Stock Exchange while its founder and Frasers Group held significant stakes.
In 2021 it was sold to MIP Holdings Ltd, a consortium comprising UK-based entrepreneurs Apinder Singh Ghura – who at the time was French Connection’s second-largest shareholder – and Amarjit Singh Grewal along with holding company KJR Brothers.
French Connection handles their own PR.
