Coal Drops combines art, commerce and culture to provide a unique retail experience. Based on the ideas of innovation and creativity, Coals Drop Yard is the new shopping district at King's Cross, which was opened in autumn 2018.
Offering an eclectic mix of retail stores, galleries and restaurants, it is located in former industrial buildings and railway arches reimagined by celebrated British architect Thomas Heatherwick.
Coal Drops Yard was originally established in 1850 to handle the eight million tonnes of coal delivered to the capital each year, and was latterly the location of nightclubs Bagley’s and The Cross.
It is now home to 50 stores and restaurants from names such as Wolf & Badger, Paul Smith, Cubitts, Lost Property of London, COS and more. Further brands set to open in 2019 include A.P.C and Blackhorse Lane Ateliers.
It forms part of The King’s Cross estate which is owned by the King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership, made up of Argent and pension fund AustralianSuper. AustralianSuper owns a 67.5% stake in KCCLP.
