Founded by Charles Henry Harrod in 1849, Harrods is a luxury department store in Knightsbridge, London. Harrods is one of the world’s few single-site department stores, occupying a prime five-acre site along the Brompton Road.
The department store was acquired by House of Fraser in 1959, which in turn was purchased by the Fayed brothers in 1985. In May 2010 Harrods was sold to Qatar Holdings, the sovereign wealth fund of the State of Qatar.
The business employs approximately 4,000 members of staff in departments including food and beverages, toys, luxury fashion and furnishings.
