Evans was founded in 1930 by the manufacturer Jack Green. The brand sells plus-size clothing, lingerie, wide-fitting shoes, swimwear and accessories.

In November 2020, Evans' then parent company, Arcadia, entered administration. The following month, Australian fashion retailer City Chic Collective reached an agreement with Arcadia's administrators to purchase the Evans brand, website and wholesale business for £23 million. The deal did not include the retailer's stores.

In August 2023, AK Retail acquired Evans for £8 million. The deal will involve the closure of City Chic’s UK warehouse amid the opening of a new warehouse in Peterborough.
