Founded by Mario Prada in 1913, Prada is an Italian luxury fashion house specializing in leather handbags, accessories, shoes, ready-to-wear and perfumes. Its originality made it one of the most influential fashion houses and it became a premium status symbol in the 1990s.
Prada’s second label, Miu Miu, launched in 1992.
In 2015 Prada opened a permanent home for Fondazione Prada in Milan, an institution dedicated to contemporary art and culture. The brand was slow to adopt digital technology and in recent years it had lost ground to its Kering-owned rival Gucci, which has undergone a resurgence under creative director Alessandro Michele. However its signature nylon bags have recently found favour with new millennial customer and its last show in Milan was deemed a return to form.
