Known as the 'one stop shop' for all parents and kids, Mothercare was one of the UK's leading parent and child focussed retailers. Committed to brining new products and making the life of both children and parents easier, Mothercare had become a popular retail brand amongst many shoppers in the UK.

Originally the brand focussed on pushchairs, nursery furniture and maternity clothing, later expanding into kidswear up to the age of 8. Mothercare operates internationally through franchises in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

In the year to March 2019, the retailer recorded a loss before tax of £87.3million.

In November 2019 the retailer announced that they had called in in administrators after describing the UK arm of the business as "unsustainable". The retailer had been trying to sell its UK arm after losing £36.3million before tax last year, but failed to find a buyer. All 79 of Mothercare UK's stores will close their doors for good before February 2020.
