Two new additions to the new Coal Drops Yard shopping and restaurant district in King’s Cross have been confirmed as Los Angeles concept store, Twiin, and outdoor-lifestyle retailer, Outsiders Store.

Twiin will stock a mix of contemporary and vintage classics, and easy to wear pieces from brands such as Wildfox, Cotton Citizen, Thomas James LA, Boyish Jeans, Une Heures and Bandolier. The store design will feature a ‘sun’ installation at the front to create an ambient light that bathes the store in a permanent LA-style glow.

The new 2,000 sq ft Outsiders Store will sell an edited mix of functional men’s and women’s clothing and equipment from brands such as Patagonia, The North Face, Fjallraven, Snow Peak, Manastash and Poler. Outsiders Store opened its first shop in Liverpool in October 2017.

The new Heatherwick Studio-designed Coal Drops Yard district will feature over 50 stores and restaurants when it opens to the public on Friday 26 October this year. Paul Smith, Universal Works, MHL.by Margaret Howell, Fred Perry, Rains, Superga, Cheaney, Cubitts, Wolf & Badger and COS have already confirmed openings at the new development.

Coal Drops Yard was originally established in 1850 to handle the eight million tonnes of coal delivered to the capital each year, and was latterly the location of nightclubs Bagley’s and The Cross. The area is now reopening, thoughtfully reinvented by Heatherwick Studio, which has aimed to mix contemporary design with the surviving structures, streets and rich ironwork of the original Victorian coal drops

King’s Cross is now establishing itself as a true shopping destination, with Nike, 18Montrose, Jigsaw, Carhartt WIP and Sweaty Betty already open in the area.
