Vivienne Westwood cuts down office hours to reduce emissions

Climate-concerned fashion house, Vivienne Westwood, has cut down its office hours to two days a week in a bid to meet its net-zero targets.

The company’s Founder Dame Vivienne Westwood, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 81, was a climate change activist. She had devoted much of her time to environmental work, such as campaigning with Greenpeace and showing support for Just Stop Oil protestors.

Staff at Vivienne Westwood’s Battersea, London office have been instructed to work from home as part of an energy-efficiency drive, according to The Times.

In company filings, the company stated: "We have implemented hybrid working, with staff working from home three days a week.

"The brand voice is used to raise awareness of the environmental impact of overconsumption urging people to buy less and buy better quality items."

In January 2023 the company announced that moving forward its retail packaging was 100% plastic-free and it began the process of eliminating all single-use virgin plastic from transit packaging.

The company has also taken measures to cut emissions with new LED lights and aims to acquire more of its energy from renewable sources. This comes after the high street shopping recovered post-pandemic, causing emissions to rise.

In 2022, sales were up by 53% year-on-year to £101 million. During the same period, profits doubled to £38.5 million during the period.
