Toteme brings its minimalist aesthetic to Mayfair's Mount Street

Toteme, the Swedish contemporary fashion brand beloved for its minimalist aesthetic, has opened its first UK store on London's Mount Street.

The 1,937 square foot space, which was previously occupied by Balenciaga, is part of a wider retail roll-out by the brand which was founded by Elin Kling and Karl Lindman in 2014.

It showcases the brand's ready-to-wear, shoes, bags, accessories and fine jewellery, which is a recently launched category for Toteme, in a clean white interior, featuring stonewashed walls and limestone flooring, offset with metallic railings and heavy table-light plinths for displaying accessories, while jewellery is showcased in built-in cases on the walls.

The space is also home to a range of artworks and furniture by 20th century Swedish designers and contemporary international artists including pieces by American post-conceptual artist Wade Guyton and celebrated Swedish sculptor Carl Milles. A nickel sofa by Marc Newson, armchairs and a table by Otto Schultz and a daybed by Olle Engkvist are standout pieces in the space.

”It was important for us to find a space that we could make our own and turn into a Toteme destination," said Lindman of the historic red-brick London store. "A lot of craftsmanship has gone into the design of the London store, at a first glance it feels quite minimal, but when you look closer you notice the unique details and textures," he said.

The brand now has 10 global stores and the London store is its first in Europe, outside of its home country of Sweden. Seven of its ten stores are in Asia (in China and South Korea) while it also has flagships in New York and Stockholm.

As well as via its dedicated retail store and e-commerce site, Toteme is available in the UK by a covetable line-up of luxury multi-brand retailers including Matches, Net-A-Porter, Selfridges, Harrods and Liberty.
