Sloggi and Triumph join the “Say Pants to the Tax” campaign

Sloggi, the global bodywear brand, and Triumph, the global lingerie brand, have officially joined WUKA & M&S’ campaign to "Say Pants to the Tax".

The campaign calls for the removal of the 20% VAT that applies to period pants. In 2021, the Government removed the ‘Tampon Tax’ and products such as tampons, pads and menstrual cups stopped incurring VAT. However, under current VAT rules, period pants are classified as garments and are therefore still subject to a tax rate of 20%.

Sloggi and Triumph believe that regardless of what period products are used, VAT should not be applied and have therefore joined the list of over 60 signatories from major retailers who are also backing the industry-wide campaign.

Patrizia Milani, Global Head of Merchandising and Products at Sloggi & Triumph, commented: "We are dedicated to championing accessibility and affordability for everyday essentials like period pants, ensuring that all people have a choice when selecting their required period-related products. We proudly endorse this significant initiative and believe that this small change can bring about a meaningful impact."

Sloggi created period pants so that women could ditch uncomfortable tampons and bulky pads. The pants, which are available in High Leg Tai, Hipster and Short,  are made from Modal that’s breathable and leakproof.

Triumph, on the other hand, created varying pants for varying flows. The Freedom Pants are available in two different styles, tai fit for lighter days (up to 3 standard tampons worth) and maxi fit for heavy flow days with high absorbency (up to 5 standard tampons worth).

In August, M&S joined Tesco in covering the VAT costs on period underwear. This brought its period pants in line with other period products, which have been exempt from VAT since 2021.
