Oliver Spencer gets framed by Cubitts in new collaboration

Contemporary British menswear brand Oliver Spencer has teamed up with modern spectacle maker Cubitts on the first of a series of “stunning sunglasses frames”.

Spencer himself worked closely with the Cubitts team to update a classic S9 military issue silhouette. The frame, called the ‘Conduit’ (Spencer’s HQ and flagship London store is at 62 Lamb’s Conduit Street in London), is proportionally balanced, featuring bold 52mm wide rectangle lenses, tempered by a saddle bridge and wide temples.

Oliver Spencer said: “It was a real pleasure to work with Cubitts’ Founder Tom Broughton and his team who are all so passionate and knowledgeable about eyewear.

“Tom lives and breathes glasses, so it was a great experience getting into the nuts and bolts of design with him. I’d had an idea of reinterpreting the classic S9 military issue specs and the team at Cubitts have done an incredible job of reinventing this classic shape for a stylish modern audience.”

All the frames are made by hand at the Cubitts London workshop out of Mazzuchelli cellulose acetate, “using structural double dot rivets and OBE hardware from Germany”.

Each frame features a hand-cut browline, angular lugs and hockey-end temples -engraved with Oliver Spencer branding. They come finished with Carl Zeiss lenses - offering full UV protection.

The ‘Conduit’ style comes in three different colours; amber tortoiseshell, chocolate tortoiseshell and black.
