Milan Fashion Week AW24: Matteo Tamburini debuts his creative direction for Tod’s

Tod’s turned the page to its new chapter, revealing the debut AW24 collection under its new Creative Director Matteo Tamburini.

Tamburini had a mere two months to turn around his debut collection, after leaving Bottega Veneta to become Creative Director across women's and men's collections at Tod's in December. He replaced Walter Chiapponi, who left the Italian luxury house last summer to join Blumarine.

The collection was titled ‘Tod’s In Motion’, which consisted of looks that contemporise the brand's ethos, which is deeply rooted in the Italian lifestyle and leather craftsmanship.

The paired-back show was staged at the depot of the historic Darsena trams, a symbol of the energy and movement that animate the city – mirroring the collection’s inspiration.

As a continued trend this season, we’ve seen deconstruction crop up among runways across London, Paris and now Milan. Tod's reinterpreted the principles of saddle-making, through a 'deconstructed luxury' that defines new artisanal codes.

The duality between urban life and leisure, formal and informal, tradition and innovation permeated the collection. This was characterised by updated classic pieces such as the leather trench, the oversized field jacket and the wrapping cloak.

As always, leather took centre stage Tod's, celebrating the high-quality raw material. When we think of Tod’s, we instantly think of its iconic Gommino loafers. Under Tamburini, the classic silhouette received a makeover, updated with a subtle metal band.

At this time of his appointment, Tamburini said: "I am honoured and excited to join the Tod's family and become part of a brand that is so closely tied to my origins and memories. I identify myself with the brand's values and the continuous pursuit of high quality and style it has undertaken until now, and I look forward to contributing with my expertise."
