JD Sports to take lease of Topshop unit at Westfield Stratford
JD Sports has signed a 10-year lease on a second store at London’s Westfield Stratford, taking over the 31,000 sq ft unit Topshop/Topman occupy.
The sportswear retailer will also renew the lease on its current space at the shopping centre, taking its overall footprint to more than 40,000 sq ft. It is understood to become a flagship store for the brand, but it is not currently known if both stores will offer the same stock or cater to the same customer demographic.
The two-storey Topshop/Topman store opened in September 2011, in time for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Parent company Arcadia has since chosen not to renew the lease any further than its original length. The store closure does not form part of Arcadia’s CVA arrangement agreed last year, which led to 23 store closures.
