Angelina Jolie has unveiled plans to launch a purpose-driven fashion business that will operate as a collective of creative talent using vintage and deadstock materials.

The celebrated actress, film-maker and humanitarian has made the announcement of the imminent launch of Atelier Jolie on her Instagram account.

She explained that she had been inspired to launch the business by all the skilled fashion workers, from tailors to pattern makers, that she had collaborated with during her career.

"Atelier Jolie is a place for creative people to collaborate with a skilled and diverse family of expert tailors, pattern makers and artisans from around the world. It stems from my appreciation and deep respect for the many tailors and makers I’ve worked with over the years, a desire to make use of the high-quality vintage material and deadstock fabric already available, and also to be part of a movement to cultivate more self-expression," Jolie explained. She signed off her post with "more soon".

On the newly launched @atelierjolie Instagram account, Jolie described the business as: "A place to have fun. To create your own designs with freedom.”

Jolie is far from the first A list celebrity to enter the world of fashion, though the trend lately has been more towards well-known names entering the beauty space. Musician Rihanna has a highly successful lingerie and beauty business, under her Fenty brand, though a luxury fashion business launched with luxury group LVMH was put on ice due to challenges resulting from the pandemic.

Music artist and entrepreneur Pharrell Williams was early into the space with the launch the Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream fashion labels in 2005. He went on to collaborate with a number of other big names, including Adidas, before launching his own skincare brand in 2020 and being appointed menswear artistic director for Louis Vuitton earlier this year.

Jolie's former husband Brand Pitt has himself branched out of the world of Hollywood by launching his own skincare range, Le Domaine, which has been inspired by wine.
