Adidas, which is responsible for the shoes of the summer otherwise known as Sambas, has announced the opening of ‘Originals Newcastle’ – an all-encompassing exhibition featuring products from the past and present.

Presented by Adidas Spezial, in partnership with END, the exhibition will open on Friday 27 October and run until Sunday 5 November at the Newcastle Contemporary Art Gallery.

The global sportswear brand's exhibition will feature a mixture of archival and contemporary footwear, including limited edition releases and signed pairs from the likes of Stormzy, Liam Gallagher, Run DMC and more. It will also showcase an exclusive preview of the upcoming Adidas Spezial AW23 footwear collection, alongside an Adidas Spezial archive.

The announcement of Originals Newcastle, presented by Adidas Spezial comes after the latest Adidas Originals campaign launch ‘We Gave The World An Original. You Gave Us A Thousand Back.’ It pays homage to those who have continued to transport its iconic signifier – the Trefoil – to the forefront of culture, over and over again. The campaign focuses on three timeless ‘characters’ from the three stripes archive – the Superstar, the Gazelle, and the Samba.

The free exhibition will be open daily and run until Sunday 5th November.

This news comes after the company published its preliminary results for the third quarter of 2023 earlier this month. Currency-neutral revenues increased by 1% versus 2022.

The company’s revenue declined 6% to £5.1 billion (€5.9 billion) against £5.5 billion (€6.4 billion) the previous year, but gross margin improved 0.2 percentage points to 49.3% in Q3, from 49.1% in 2022.
