Amazon warehouse workers to strike during Prime Day

Almost 900 Amazon workers at a Coventry warehouse are getting ready to strike for three days this week in a long-running dispute over pay.

The walkout by members of the GMB union will run from 11-13 July for two hours in the morning and two in the evening on each of the three days.

Starting pay for Amazon employees falls between £11-£12 per hour, depending on the location. However, GMB members are calling for at least £15 an hour to help with the cost-of-living crisis.

Rachel Fagan, Senior Organiser at GMB, said: "GMB Members in Coventry have time and time again shown that this fight will only end with £15 an hour and union rights."

The strike coincides with a Prime Day sale Amazon announced for 11-12 July. Although, Amazon said the Coventry warehouse does not directly serve customer orders so there will be no disruption to customers.

The warehouse became Amazon's first in the UK to have walkouts in January. Last month, the union said the warehouse workers had voted for six more months of strikes following a string of industrial action.
