UK retailers help small charity reach £10m milestone by donating overstocks

A Borehamwood-based charity which sends overstock products donated by UK retailers to vulnerable communities around the world says it has now donated £10m of goods to more than 1m people in need.

Goods for Good, which started three years ago, has co-ordinated donations from 65 UK companies, including DUNE, Harrods and Next, sending 200 consignments to 12 countries including Ukraine, Moldova, Syria, Kurdistan, the Philippines, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and Uganda.

CEO Rosalind Bluestone said that, while the milestone was significant, more stock was needed: "We reached a milestone, but there are many more people that urgently need our help. To think of mothers without blankets or nappies for their babies is unimaginable."

She added that those donating were not only helping individuals in need but also supporting the environment. “Instead of sending these goods to landfill, they go to children and their parents in desperate need of the basics to live,” she said.

Goods for Good, which is a registered charity, has now set its sights on achieving £25m worth of goods donated by 2020.
