Roger Vivier reveals first Vivier Express ‘Travelling Icons’ short film starring Laura Dern

Parisian luxury footwear, accessories and jewellery brand Roger Vivier has launched the first episode of ‘Travelling Icons’, a series of short films set aboard the ‘Vivier Express’ steam train and starring American Academy Award winning actress Laura Dern.

Stylishly shot by Creative Director Gherardo Felloni, Dern is joined in a first class carriage by a handsome young man (supporting actor Miles Frank), who appears captivated by her beauty.

There is tension in the air as their gazes meet and her ‘I Love Vivier’ pumps almost graze his buckled loafers. She poses, staring wistfully out the window, as he opens a sketchbook and begins to draw. The only thing between them is her iconic black leather ‘Viv’ Choc’ handbag on the table.

The train slows to a halt and, in a sudden departure, the man shuts his notepad, gathers his things, and is gone in a flash. All that remains is a single sheet of paper, a portrait folded in four and left on his seat.

The viewer is left in no doubt that he has been sketching her, but when she unfolds the paper, it is her handbag that has been the real subject of desire.

"It feels natural to communicate Roger Vivier’s aesthetic through cinema, given the house’s historic connection to Hollywood and the world of French and European cinema that began with Belle de Jour," said Felloni.

"Laura Dern is an actress with a rare charisma, and I am obsessed by the David Lynch films she has acted in, so she has often been an inspiration for me. I am extremely honoured that she decided to collaborate with Roger Vivier on this project highlighting the Maison’s icons."

Laura Dern, who starred in David Lynch’s cult 1986 film noir ‘Blue Velvet’ and who won an Academy Award for her role in the 2019 film ‘Marriage Story’, added: "It’s such a delight to see my friendship with Roger Vivier and Gherardo Felloni blossom into a new project that combines my craft of acting with my love of fashion. The Vivier Express is such a playful concept that reinterprets so many cinematic tropes with humour and style."

This latest Roger Vivier campaign continues a legacy of short films from the luxury brand featuring prominent actors from the silver screen - from Isabella Rossellini and Isabelle Huppert to Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon, and ‘Belle de Jour’ star Catherine Deneuve.

For this new project, Italian director Nicolangelo Gelormini, screenwriter Andrea Danese and Studio Paura returned to Felloni’s side, having "lent their playful yet polished aesthetic and narrative style" to films for Roger Vivier since 2018.
