Peregrine commits to sourcing 100% of its British wool from regenerative farms

British knitwear and outerwear brand Peregrine has committed to transitioning to 100% regeneratively sourced wool by 2026, working exclusively with UK farms.

This year “marks the start of the journey” with 20% of Peregrine’s British wool collection coming from a transitional regenerative farm in Rye, East Sussex, and the volume will grow 20% year-on-year through to 2026.

The brand has mapped out “a realistic and phased approach” in step with the UK farming community, acknowledging that a significant systems change can’t happen overnight.

Peregrine also believes that the transition should be accessible to all farmers, and it has teamed up with Pasture for Life, a UK-based certification body for regenerative farmers who are committed to 100% pasture fed livestock.

Peregrine is also partnering with pioneering technology Soil Mentor - a low cost app that puts change in the hands of the farmer through easy benchmarking and guidance to improve soil health on farms.

The clothing brand, which produces its best-selling ‘Hudson Aran Jumper’ in the UK, has specifically focussed on supporting the restoration of landscapes, soil and habitats in its own backyard, while at the same time mitigating against the additional carbon emissions of importing the wool.

Peregrine Managing Director, Tom Glover, said: “The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world and we are supporting farmers working to turn this story around.

“Through our work with Pasture for Life and Soil Mentor, we are able to make a difference at farm level and help drive the national movement towards more nature-friendly farming practices.”
