Pangaia unveils hemp denim collection and custom denim service with unspun
Pangaia expanded its denim portfolio with the launch of its latest textile innovation, PANHemp, and announced its partnership with unspun, the robotics and digital apparel company building custom jeans on demand.
The sustainability-focused materials science and apparel company teamed up with Jonathan Cheung once again to develop the exclusive 13-ounce denim in collaboration with Turkish denim mill Orta.
The entirely plant-based fabric is made with rain-fed hemp and organic cotton, and select washes in the collection are dyed with natural indigo. The PANHemp fabric is then woven in reverse to create Pangaia’s signature left-hand twill and treated with PPRMINT oil to make it soft, strong and durable to wear.
Available now on Pangaia's website, the PANHemp collection offers straight-leg jeans, a cropped denim jacket, women’s high-rise wide-leg jeans, a denim shearling jacket available in three washes and a shearling jacket lined with recycled wool and Tencel fabric. Prices range from £153 to £231,
From 11 November, Pangaia will offer its hemp collection on unspun's new AI-powered app, which allows customers to produce custom-fitting jeans from a 10-second iPhone scan and proprietary software. The brand is the first partner to leverage the technology-enable platform, with the technology previously available only at select retail locations.
The app utilises TrueDepth sensors on the phone camera, allowing sensors to capture measurements by projecting and analysing thousands of invisible dots. This infrared image then transforms into a 3D version of the individual. After the style has been selected, customers can select their wash colour and preferred hem length.
Beth Esponnette, Co-Founder of unspun said: "This is a powerhouse collaboration between a beautiful product made of dreamy, environmentally-friendly materials and technology that brings fashion into the next century. unspun has not found a partner more aligned in its values to protect the earth and save humanity than Pangaia."
In October, Pangaia debuted its first-ever denim collection using wild Himalayan nettles, created with Cheung, who was Levi's former denim designer.
Pangaia Denim Designer and unspun Advisor, Cheung, said: "We are proud to work with unspun and when you see the custom fits, it’s hard not to think that you looking at a glimpse of the future."
The unspun app is available to download in the App Store. The Pangaia x Unspun capsule include straight-leg jeans, wide-leg jeans and a jean short from £140.
