25 March 2024

Marks & Spencer has today announced the appointment of Callum Briggs, previously Head of Design at Hugo Boss, as its new Head of Menswear Design, effective from June 2024.

Briggs has been at Hugo Boss since February 2021, firstly as Senior Menswear Designer across outerwear and leather, before being promoted to Head of Design in February 2022.

Prior to Hugo Boss, he was Menswear Designer for Outerwear and Leather at Reiss, from August 2017 to August 2020, and has also held junior and assistant design roles at Tom Ford and Belstaff.

Briggs will join the Clothing & Home leadership team and report into Marks & Spencer's Director of Menswear, Mitch Hughes, who rejoined the business in January 2023 having previously held Managing Director roles at Boohoo Group and Topman.

Hughes said: "We’re thrilled to be welcoming Callum to M&S. Callum joins at a time when we’re really clear on the job to be done, who our menswear customer is and what we want to go after.

"It has been a pivotal 12 months for Menswear at M&S, which included our first standalone campaign in eight years, and Callum will help lead the great work of our design team as we focus our ranges, make the big even bigger and continue to accelerate our style credentials with existing, new, and lapsed customers.

"Callum’s experience at Hugo Boss will help us take our smart casual business to an even greater level and I’m sure our customers and colleagues will see this appointment as a great asset to our business."

Briggs added: "I have followed M&S’ journey with a keen interest over recent years and have seen a real development in the product and a renewed sense of confidence in the brand.

"It’s an exciting time to be joining and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into the role and working with the team to take the menswear at M&S to the next stage in its journey."

The British retailer's Clothing & Home business sustained "strong" sales momentum in the third quarter, up 4.8%. M&S sub-brand Autograph was a standout performer for menswear.
