John Lewis hires ex-Fraser’s Head of Luxury Marketing

John Lewis & Partners has hired Daniel Freeland as Partner & Head of Category Marketing - Fashion, Beauty & Kids.

Freeland has over 20 years of experience in marketing working in the brand and retail fashion sector. He steps into the role from his previous position as Group Head of Luxury Marketing & Marketing Operations at Frasers Group for three years.

At Frasers, Freeland successfully led marketing initiatives such as the Renaissance pop-up. Prior to this, he was the Head of Marketing at Fraser's owned FLANNELS and UK Marketing Manager at Dr. Martens.

In his new role, Freeland will do what he does best - deliver a strategy by translating consumer insights into solid 360 marketing campaigns.

This appointment comes after the retailer's new Chief Executive, Nish Kankiwala, made a pact to prioritise retail amid the company's turnaround plan. He told staff that he was operating with a "one retail mindset" for John Lewis and Waitrose to make it a "brilliant retailer".

As part of these plans, last week, John Lewis announced that Peter Ruis was returning to head up its department store business.

As a result of the move Naomi Simcock, who stepped up as interim Executive Director for John Lewis, has been appointed into a new role as Operations Director. Working closely with Ruis, Simcock will take responsibility for John Lewis Retail and Supply Chain
