Jakke has announced its first ready-to-wear collection for spring/summer 2023. Staying true to the brand's ethos, 75% of materials used in the collection are deemed sustainable.

Eight years after its launch, Jakke has introduced ready-to-wear silhouettes for the first time - these include shirts, matching co-ords, dresses, trousers, and shorts.

For spring/summer 2023, Creative Director Nina Hopkins drew inspiration from the renowned artwork ‘A Bigger Splash’, painted by by British artist David Hockney. Hockney painted this and various other pool scenes in California - a place where everyone is calmer and less tense – which is exactly how Hopkins wants people to feel when they wear pieces from the collection.

Nina Hopkins, Creative Director of Jakke, commented: "I’ve always loved all genres of art, so David Hockney (A Bigger Splash) was the perfect inspiration for diving into something new for the brand."

The ready-to-wear collection stays true to the brand’s ethos by remaining 100% cruelty-free and 75% sustainable. To achieve this, Jakke has incorporated recycled and reused materials in the production process. The Leyton Shirt and Willow Trousers, for example, are made from 100% recycled polyester.

Tencel, a natural fibre derived from wood pulp and usually sourced from trees such as eucalyptus, beech, birch and spruce, is also used throughout the design process. The trademarked fabric is not only certified biodegradable, but it is also a cooling and breathable material.

Hopkins added: "This is the first Ready to Wear collection for Jakke and I’ve really enjoyed the design process. I’ve been working with lightweight fabrics that are completely new to the brand like Tencel and organic cotton. Translating these into styles that the Jakke person would wear in the summer (whilst keeping the Jakke aesthetic and ethos) was demanding but I’m super pleased with the final collection which I believe stays true to the brand."
