In Pictures: Designer Daniëlle Cathari remagines Clarks' iconic Wallabee silhouette

Highstreet footwear retailer, Clarks, has joined forces with Amsterdam-based fashion designer, Daniëlle Cathari, on a collaborative collection of reworked Wallabees.

Cathari, known for her subversive take on classic designs, brings her creative vision to an iconic Clarks Originals silhouette – the Wallabee.

Clarks was founded in 1825 in Somerset by brothers James and Cyrus Clark. Their first shoe was made a slipper from sheepskin off-cuts, which, at the time, was a ground-breaking combination of invention and craftsmanship that’s remained at the heart of what the brand does now.

The Clarks archive is home to over 22,000 pairs of shoes that have defined generations. One of which is the Wallabee, a design that launched in 1968 and remained a mainstay of collections to come. Hand-stitched moccasin uppers give the shoe its distinctive Clarks look, while natural crepe soles ensure all-day comfort.

The collaboration sees the silhouette updated in seven fresh new shades including navy (a UK exclusive), chocolate brown, deep Kelly green, dusty pink, pale green (a UK exclusive), chilli red, and lavender. Matching leather keyholders are also available.

Cathari – a regular Wallabee-wearer – reimagined the silhouette as a deconstructed wardrobe staple. She uses both the front and back of suede to play with textures.

 

For the campaign, Cathari styled the shoes with a range of looks from her own wardrobe. She commented: "As a frequent Wallabee wearer, it would only make sense to partner with Clarks Originals on a first footwear collab. Since the shoe is such a wardrobe staple, I wanted to create 7 unique colourways in my very own colour palette - one for each day of the week."
