Hayley Menzies opens new boutique in Carnaby with glamour at the core

Contemporary luxury womenswear brand Hayley Menzies has opened a new 640 sq ft boutique at 8 Newburgh Street in London’s Carnaby, showcasing “a cornucopia of colour, print and artisanal embellishment”, with glamourous looks very much at the forefront.

Known for exuberant prints, the ground floor has a highly curated edit of Hayley Menzies SS23 ready-to-wear offering, while downstairs sees the brand’s much-coveted knitwear take up residence in a leopard-lined lounge. Prices range from £70 to £650, and the brand’s mission is to create “the vintage of the future”.

It is Hayley Menzies second London store, having opened at 40 Duke of York Square in Chelsea in October 2020, though the brand’s roots stem from a stall at Portobello Market back in 2011.

It feels like the right fit for my brand, with its rock ‘n’ roll rebellious heritage and a place visited to discover innovative brands selling unique and exciting pieces.”

Menzies’ celebration of beautifully made items extends from fashion into furnishings, as she accentuates every available surface with a flamboyant array of handpicked antiques - a natural choice given the brand’s vintage Portobello Market stall roots.

Enormous 1970’s Murano glass chandeliers set the tone for the space, and select eBay thrift finds sit alongside vast 1920’s brass mirrors from the V&A, along with a set of Art Deco brass and glass drinking cabinets purchased from Menzies’ favourite Notting Hill antique dealer.
