Hai launches its first-ever made-to-order Bridal collection

Womenswear and accessory label Hai, renowned for its array of candyfloss-coloured satin mini bags and ballet flats, is launching its first-ever bridal collection tomorrow.

Hai was founded in 2018 when Tessa Vermeulen became inspired by the nostalgia from her past memories playing in her mother’s jewellery box. Evocative memories of childhood inform every Hai piece, from silk bags to puffed-sleeved midi dresses.

The concept of the ‘Hai bride’ has been something of a reoccurrence since the company began conjuring up ready-to-wear collections, with brides choosing the ivory dupion silk pieces to wear for their big day.

Hai’s abundance of ‘fanciful ruffles’ and ‘ethereal simplicity’ over time became bridal favourites, not to mention the Little Silk bags often used to adorn bridal attires. However, the brand felt it was time to create extra-special pieces for its community, especially as the Founder and Creative Director Tessa Vermeulen was designing her own wedding dress.

Vermeulen commented: "Creating our first bridal collection has felt like such a natural extension for the brand. I always love seeing brides tag us in their wedding photos - it’s such a lovely feeling knowing they’ve chosen to wear hai for one of the most important days of their life. We’ve loved experimenting with different shapes and styles, and really exploring what makes this collection unique to us - somewhere between elegant and playful."

Consisting of nine pieces, which are all made-to-order at the Hai atelier in London, the bridal collection has something for every bride.  For example, the Mia dress is a silky number, whereas the Isabella dress is a contemporary fairytale dream finished with ruffles upon ruffles. Completing the collection is the brand's take on the traditional veil and corsage-adorned lace gloves.

The Hai bridal collection launches online on 6 July with prices starting from £280.
