Gucci has committed to donating £259,644 (€300,000) to UNICEF’s education programs to ensure that every child has the right to quality education, focusing on the world’s most vulnerable communities.

The donation to the education thematic fund was made on behalf of Creative Director Sabato De Sarno and Gucci employees.

Gucci told WWD: "The global disruption to education caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is without parallel and its consequences on learning and access to education are still impacting children’s learning today."

To date, UNICEF’s education programming has contributed to helping 37.9 million out-of-school children to gain access to education. In addition, last year the charity extended its outreach to engage 16.1 million adolescents across 89 countries, including 345,000 adolescents in humanitarian settings.

Gucci has been a UNICEF partner since 2005, with donations now amounting to a total of £15.8 million ($20 million). From 2005-2015, with Gucci’s help, UNICEF trained more than 8,700 teachers and educators, built nearly 300 school classrooms, supplied 14,600 school desks and constructed over 1,800 water and sanitation facilities in schools.

The luxury fashion house is also a founding member of UNICEF’s Girls’ Empowerment Initiative. This work "focuses on innovative solutions to advance measurable progress in girls’ rights and well-being across thematic programme areas, such as health, education, social protection, water and sanitation".

In December 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Gucci donated £295,000 ($500,000) to UNICEF USA, adding a further £79,000 ($100,000) on behalf of the Gucci community in support of UNICEF’s work in preparing for the rollout of a safe vaccine. In 2021, Gucci announced a donation of 200,000 COVID-19 vaccine kits.
