Goldwin unveils new collection made from Brewed Protein fibres

Japanese technical clothing and accessories brand Goldwin is launching a nine-piece capsule collection made from Brewed Protein fibres - developed by biotech company Spiber - at a two-day pop-up store in London’s Soho on 29 September.

The collection includes the ‘3L Jacket’, a garment inspired by the ski wear behind the origins of Goldwin, the ‘3L Mac Coat’ and the ‘3L Tapered Pants’.

It’s not the first time Goldwin has collaborated with fellow Japanese company Spiber, as it has been working on the joint development of structural protein materials since 2015, and has previously produced outerwear, t-shirts and sweaters on a small scale.

However, this collection has taken the development up several notches, as it's the first time Spiber’s "mass production plant" in Thailand has been utilised to up the production scale for Goldwin for this global launch.

Based on the concept of the ‘Regenerative Circle’, the Goldwin x Spiber collection was created to establish practical applications of Brewed Protein fibres as "next-generation innovative materials" which can offer alternative solutions to a wide range of conventional animal-based, plant-based, and synthetic materials for various purposes.

Goldwin hopes the new development will "help to contribute to solving environmental issues the industry faces", and it has now set a goal to use Brewed Protein fibres in 10% of newly developed products by 2030.
