Footasylum opens new flagship stores as retail expansion gathers pace

Footasylum has opened a new flagship store at Atria Watford shopping centre and an over four times larger store at Birmingham Bullring, with a new upsized space at Fosse Park in Leicester set to open in November 2023.

As the retailer’s store expansion pushes on, the new 6,000 sq ft Atria Watford store, employing 35 staff, follows the new store design concept of the company’s flagship 20,000 sq ft Oxford Street store, which opened in September.

The new 11,000 sq ft Birmingham Bullring store, replacing its previous 2,500 sq ft space at the shopping centre, is located on the ground floor.

It uses advanced digital capabilities to create a "mobile first customer journey that seamlessly connects Footasylum’s online and in-store offerings".

The move has seen an additional 40 members of staff taken on, doubling the 40 employed in the previous unit.

Footasylum’s next store opening at Leicester’s Fosse Park, one of Britain's biggest out of town shopping parks, will open in time for Black Friday in November.

The store will extend to 6,400 sq ft and be spread across two floors, replacing the company’s previous single storey 4,000 sq ft space at the site.

Other recent Footasylum store openings this year include Westfield Stratford City and Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex – which opened in September, with the retailer’s owners, Aurelius, which acquired Footasylum in August 2022, seeing bricks and mortar retail as "pivotal" to the growth of the business.

Barry Bown, Executive Chairman and CEO of Footasylum, said: "2023 has been a transformational year for Footasylum, and these latest openings are further testament to our team’s amazing ability to deliver state of the art stores for our customers across the country.

"Our aim is for our unique and extensive branded streetwear offering to be widely available across the country, and having bigger and better stores is a key part of that ambition.

"With our new and improved store network, we are well positioned to meet the strong and growing demand for our branded streetwear. We are looking forward to a successful Black Friday and Christmas trading period and announcing more exciting Footasylum developments in 2024."
