Burberry has teamed up with resale platform Vestiaire Collective to offer customers the chance to trade in their pre-loved items.

From today Burberry customers can trade in women’s outerwear and handbags on the Burberry x Vestiaire Collective platform, in exchange for a Burberry gift card.

Vestiaire Collective offers customers a price for their pre-loved item and once the price has been accepted by the customer, the item will need to be shipped to Vestiaire Collective, where it will undergo an authentication and quality control process. The customer will then receive a Burberry gift card.

All of the pre-loved items will be available to buy on Vestiaire Collective globally and to kickstart the process Burberry has donate a selection of women’s Heritage Trench Coats to the platform.

The sale price of these items will be donated to the UK-based charity Smart Works, which provides high-quality interview clothes and coaching to unemployed women in need. Burberry has been working with the charity since 2013,

"We are very excited to team up with Vestiaire Collective to provide another way for our customers to give new life to their Burberry pieces. In building on our existing circular initiatives, including our aftercare services through our ReBurberry programme, we hope that these pieces can continue to be enjoyed for generations to come," said Burberry Chief Digital, Customer and Innovation Officer Giorgio Belloni.

Resale platform Vestiaire Collective began life as a peer to peer service but has since evolved to also partner with brands on formal resale programmes. The platform has the backing of, among others, Kering and has formal resale agreements with big names such as Gucci, Alexander McQueen and luxury mutlibrand platform Mytheresa.
