London luxury retailer Browns has launched an exclusive 20-piece unisex capsule collection with South Central LA-based brand Crenshaw Skate Club (CSC) featuring “skate and streetwear classics”.

The collaboration is part of Farfetch-owned Browns’ FARFETCH BEAT 009 retail concept series, which introduces exclusive product experiences to a global audience.

Founded in 2017 by Tobey McIntosh, CSC brings together a collective of his friends and fellow skaters with the aim to put the spotlight on young entrepreneurs from Crenshaw with a ‘Skate To Empower’ objective.

Having built a loyal following through its community, today CSC counts Supreme as a stockist, Justin Bieber as a fan and has multiple collaborations under its belt including with Nike, Lacoste, ICECREAM and the LA Clippers.

Ida Petersson, Buying Director at Browns, said: “From the first moment I connected with Tobey, he impressed me with his maturity, vision and love for his community, making it the perfect partnership to bring to Browns and FARFETCH customers.

“He has so much creative energy and the brand is at that tipping point where it has the real potential to make its mark on a global scale. It is exceptionally exciting to be part of this journey with Tobey and Crenshaw Skate Club, delivering a collection that captures the zeitgeist and is designed to be lived-in.”

The collection is inspired by McIntosh’s Crenshaw neighbourhood, “bringing the youthful spirit of CSC from LA to London”. Alongside the brands t-shirts and hoodies, the cut and sew collection features a black denim co-ord, a black, green and red tie dye workwear jacket with matching straight leg trousers, and a beige three-piece jacket, trouser and shirt combo printed with the Crenshaw Square sign.

Throughout the collection and across the skateboards are CSC’s signature playful graphics, including the crew skating down Crenshaw Boulevard and a soft teddy bear wearing a gold chain with the CSC logo, inspired by one that McIntosh can always be seen wearing.

McIntosh commented: “This collaboration with Browns for FARFETCH BEAT is very special and symbolic of CSC’s next step into the world of cut and sew, which has been a goal of mine ever since I was a kid.

“With this exclusive we’ve been able to take CSC’s message international which is to represent and empower inner-city skaters, and I hope that I can make inner-city skaters in other countries feel represented as well. The origin of CSC is hyperlocal, but the message can be applied to kids all over the world.”

McIntosh will be hosting a community activation for the collection at London skatepark BaySixty6 on Acklam Road in North Kensington - with local skaters and his favourite artists - today, 9 June, as part of the London Fashion Week schedule.

The Crenshaw Skate Club collection is now available exclusively at Browns, 39 Brook Street in London’s Mayfair, on the Browns website and on FARFETCH.
