Barbour defies gloom with sales growth

Barbour defied the gloom in the fashion and retail market posting an 11% increase in sales to £225.1m in the year to 30 April.

Profits at the British outdoor brand were also up by £5.6m to £39m despite taking a hit from the collapse of House of Fraser in August 2018.

“This result shows the strength of our brands despite a backdrop of uncertainty and difficult trading conditions on the high street," the company said.

During the year Barbour launched a new brand Beacon targeting a younger consumer, which is sold in branches of Topman, Selfridges, JD Sports, ASOS and End, as well as at the Barbour store in Foubert's place just off Carnaby Street.

The company also recently announced that it had expanded its partnership with ALEXACHUNG for a second season for SS20, following its successful AW19 debut.
