Baracuta’s G9 Harrington gets Junya Watanabe rework for SS23

21 April 2023

Japanese designer Junya Watanabe has worked his magic on a fresh interpretation of Baracuta’s iconic G9 Harrington for SS23, the second time they have collaborated – the first being for AW22.

Launching today, 21 April, in this Baracuta’s 85th anniversary year, Watanabe’s expertise and creativity have resulted in a new oversized silhouette with a navy shell and orange hood with white drawstrings.

The jacket retains many of Baracuta’s signature features, including the Fraser Tartan lining, umbrella back yoke, ribbed cuffs and waistband, raglan sleeves and slanted pockets. It comes in a cotton blend Baracuta cloth coated in a WR treatment to make it water repellent, and it has been made in Japan.

To coincide with the launch, Baracuta has partnered with American rapper ASAP Nast – widely respected for his style and a heavyweight within the hip-hop world, described as “a culture-crossing genre”, echoing the culture clash of Baracuta’s British heritage with Junya Watanabe’s Japanese design aesthetic.

In light of Baracuta’s 85th anniversary, this is the first in a series of projects that the brand is undertaking throughout the duration of this year.

Priced at £1,165, in line with Watanabe’s price range, the jacket is now available on the Baracuta website.
