Los Angeles-based premium activewear brand Alo Yoga is opening its first UK store at 33 King’s Road in London on 17 November 2023, with further London stores planned to open on Regent Street in June 2024 and Brompton Road in September 2024.

The 4,321 sq ft King’s Road store is set over two levels, while the flagship store at 150 Regent Street will have 6,003 sq ft of selling space, again over two levels, as well as a 2,378 sq ft gym and wellness club. The two-floor Brompton Road store will be 6,070 sq ft.

Alo, which is an acronym for Air, Land, and Ocean, was founded in 2007 by childhood friends Danny Harris and Marco DeGeorge, who remain as co-owners and co-CEOs. It has since built a community of celebrity and “influential champions worldwide” - from the likes of Kendal and Kylie Jenner to Taylor Swift and Hailey Bieber.

The brand, which is also sold in the UK by Harrods and Selfridges and its own website, “sits at the intersection of fashion, function and fitness”, and is known for its “studio-to-street” performance apparel and accessories.

Each Alo piece is created with an emphasis technical details and trend forward design, featuring a diverse range of activewear and fashion for men and women, with unisex styles. They range from yoga clothing and activewear essentials “in award winning signature fabrics”, to luxe lounge pieces and day-to-night looks.

The move to enter the UK is part of the brand's retail growth strategy. Danny Harris said: “As a brand which supports wellbeing, Alo has a strong synergy with the cultured lifestyle enjoyed in the UK and Europe.

“There is an incredible yoga and fitness scene in London and we're looking forward to connecting with our community in Europe, through our first retail store opening on the iconic King’s Road. Our retail expansion model continues to focus on convenience, guest experience, and community as we introduce Alo to our newest markets.”

According to a report by Forbes in June 2023, Alo Yoga is one of the brands that saw a considerable surge in popularity during and post-COVID, enjoying 32% increase in revenue in 2022 to reach over $1 billion in sales. Forbes said it has “taken the fitness industry by storm and thrown shade at Lululemon, the pioneer of yoga and athleisure”.
