Victoria Beckham embraces accessibility with Mango collab

04 April 2024

Superstar-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham, whose eponymous label sells sophisticated silhouettes at luxury price points, has joined forces to create an accessible collection with high street mega-force Mango.

The collection, available from 23 April to coincide with Mango's 40th anniversary, is a "perfect blend of classic British luxury".

Beckham and Mango’s aesthetic – timeless and understated – are said to be a match made in heaven. What's more, the range celebrates the two brands’ shared values of style, quality and femininity.

Let's not forget Beckham's ties to Mango's Spanish roots. Pop culture fiends will remember the Beckham family's four-year stint in Spain when David Beckham was playing football for Real Madrid in the 2000s.

Although, the aesthetic of the range is a far cry from the looks reminiscent of the 2000s. Oozing sophistication, it includes precision tailoring "with a twist", flowy dresses and everyday knitwear as well as accompanying bags, accessories and shoes. All pieces, as expected, are rendered in a muted colour palette that is "island" ready.

Commenting on the collection, Beckham told WWD: "There is a cheekiness, but it is also very put together. I was inspired by the iconic French film 'La Piscine', and more specifically by Jane Birkin's character and ease. She is all about natural beauty, is highly feminine, and has a real sense of freedom."

Victoria Beckham and Justi Ruano, Mango Women's Creative Director

Victoria Beckham worked closely with Justi Ruano, Mango women's Creative Director to ensure the "collection represents [Beckham's] style in a very faithful way."

This is the latest in a series of Mango's collaborations with big-name brands and artists, including SIMONMILLER, Camille Charrière and Pernille Teisbaek.

Coveted collaborations permit the high street retailer to raise its prices. Mango said its customers are open to paying extra for high-profile collaboration pieces as well as for in-house specialist drops.

Though the retailer has not yet released the price point for the collection, customers can expect it to be in the accessible range and most certainly not in the vicinity of Beckham's luxury line's prices, which see dresses sell for over £1,000.

Last month, Mango revealed that it closed 2023 with historic results, reaching a turnover of over £2.56 billion (€3 billion) for the first time. With this achievement in the bag, the Barcelona-based company announced a new strategic plan to exceed £3.41 billion (€4 billion) in 2026.
