British accessories designer Sophie Hulme has opened a permanent shop-in-shop in Harrods, following the success of a year-long pop-up at the iconic Knightsbridge department store.

Harrods is one of 14 key UK retailers for Sophie Hulme's brand and has carried her collection for four years. The 33sqm space in the store will set the blueprint for future retail interiors.

The space was designed by Hulme's husband, the architect Edward Swift, who worked in partnership with Hulme to "cement the visual language of the brand’s interiors and create an interactive backdrop to complement the collections on display".

Located on the lower ground floor of Harrods, the shop-in-shop features Terrazzo marble display tables inlaid with laser cut brass versions of the signature Sophie Hulme charms. Two soft grey, gold-plated, felt-upholstered Arne Jacobsen chairs were specially commissioned for the space and are the only two of their kind in existence.

To demonstrate their commitment to bespoke design and local manufacturing Hulme and Swift commissioned a specialist stonemason in South East London to create a Sophie Hulme Albion bag in marble which is displayed in an inset vitrine. In addition bag rises feature Sophie Hulme charms suspended in acrylic glass, which were custom designed and fabricated by a dedicated workshop in the Highlands of Scotland.

The boutique will stock Hulme's mainline collection as well as worldwide exclusives from the Sophie Hulme Resort 2017 collection, featuring cult classics in perennials colours including the Albion and Finsbury and the brand’s recently launched Compton evening wear collections.

"Launching our first permanent boutique space within Harrods is such an exciting milestone for the brand, and I am delighted to continue our partnership with the iconic luxury retailer who have supported us since our early collections. Collaborating with my husband on the design to define the Sophie Hulme interiors language has been an amazing journey, paving the way for exciting future concepts," Hulme said.

Harrods chief merchant Helen David said Hulme's pop-up had been a "brilliant success". "Our customers adore Sophie’s fun and colourful styles and will be excited to discover her latest eveningwear collection alongside the popular mainline collection, all of which will be showcased in the our fabulous new bespoke boutique," David said.
