SKIMS debuts first ever TV ad starring Kim Kardashian during the Oscars

SKIMS debuted a new TV commercial starring Co-founder and CCO Kim Kardashian in the US last night to coincide with the Oscars red carpet ceremony, called ‘SKIMS Lab’, which is now available for a global audience to view on YouTube.

Kardashian "conceptualised" the creative development together with production company Wieden+Kennedy, which has created ads for the likes of Nike, Ford and McDonald’s, and director Frank Lebon, to deliver a commercial that "harkens back to the golden age of advertising".

"With this being our first-ever made for TV campaign, we really wanted to bring viewers into the SKIMS universe and create a film about our brand story and obsession with product development in a witty, yet extravagant way," said Kardashian.

"It was great working with Frank on this - his unique creativity and talent for storytelling really shined through. I am really proud of what we created together."

 

The film is set inside a SKIMS Lab located on a ship in outer space and features  Kardashian playing every part, with her ‘Klones’ appearing in roles like ‘Chief Engineer’, a scientist and 'test subjects' – described as "a nod to the tongue-in-cheek speculation from fans that there's no way the real Kim Kardashian can possibly do it all".

Each version of Kardashian in the short film works tirelessly to test every product through a variety of seemingly extreme methods, "ensuring SKIMS are engineered to absolute perfection".

As ‘Chief Engineer’, Kardashian quality tests every product's fabrics, wearability, comfortability, durability and overall smoothness "to ensure the best fit for everyone".

Kardashian was apparently adamant that no Artificial Intelligence (AI) be used and the army of Kardashian ‘Klones’ are individually shot scenes of her filmed over three full shoot days.

SKIMS Co-Founder and CEO, Jens Grede, said: "As our first major ad made for national TV, this campaign cements SKIMS as a leader in the industry, but also as a creative force to be reckoned with.
