Red Wing to celebrate 10 years of its London store with limited edition boot

Red Wing Shoes is celebrating the 10th anniversary year of its store at 17 Newburgh Street in London’s Carnaby with a special boot release from its ‘Heritage’ line, the ‘9060 Beckman Flatbox’, launching in-store on 6 October 2023.

It coincides with the 10th anniversary year of the US footwear brand’s store in Munich, and each store is receiving 190 pairs of the boot, a model which has previously only been available in Japan.

Manager of Red Wing’s London store, James Moss, who has worked at the store since the opening in October 2013, said: “To reach 10 years is a milestone. It’s also an accomplishment in today’s fast turning world to be around for 10 years! We are proud to be representing a brand that makes product that’s built to last.

“We did not start the store to jump on a trend, we started the store because we believe in quality and a relationship that lasts with our customer. To celebrate a 10-year anniversary is the proof we are doing something right.

“Being able to release the ‘9060 Beckman Flatbox’, previously only available in Japan, is special for our customers. Japan was the first market to wear Red Wing work boots in day-to-day outfits.”

The 9060 Beckman Flatbox

Dominik Hoegger, Retail Manager Europe for Red Wing, commented: “The 9060 is a part of the ‘Beckman’ collection - named after Charles Beckman, who founded the Red Wing Shoe Company in 1905. We think that it is only fitting to release this boot for such a prestigious anniversary.

“The 9060 is a ‘flat box’ version of the regular Beckman models that were sold in Europe until 2018. The 9060 is previously unreleased in Europe and has been exclusive to the Japanese market.

“The 9060 is made of ‘Black Klondike’ leather by S.B. Foot Tanning Company. It has the same last shape as the ‘Beckman’ boot, but no toe box. Black Klondike is not fully struck through in tanning, meaning the leather has a black cover with a brown base. The brown base shows over time with natural wear and scuffing.

“All Red Wing Heritage boots are still made in the USA. The 9060 is made in Plant 2 in Red Wing, Minnesota, only minutes away from the company’s headquarters and S.B Foot Tanning Company, which is also located in Red Wing.

The boot (for the London and Munich stores) will not feature any special packaging or labelling, it will be released as it was in Japan.”

The Carnaby Store

The Red Wing London store is owned by Rachel Brickley, who also co-owns American Classics in London, which was founded on the King’s Road as a vintage American clothing store by Cavan Cooper (since retired) in 1981. Brickley worked for Cooper for many years before jointly taking over the business. American Classics had sold Red Wing boots from the early 90s.

James Moss worked for American Classics for two years at its store at 20 Endell Street in Covent Garden before the launch of the Red Wing store on Newburgh Street. More conveniently, American Classics moved from its premises on Endell Street to 7 Newburgh Street in April 2022. A dedicated Red Wing women’s store was also added at 8 Newburgh Street in July 2018.
