Primark opens in Staten Island, New York

17 March 2017

Irish value fashion giant Primark opened its seventh US store yesterday in Staten Island, New York just ahead of St Patrick's Day.

The 55,100 sq ft store in the Staten Island Mall boasts 41 fitting rooms and 41 cash registers and employs 241 staff. It occupies a space that previously housed Sears, which has been downsizing its retail operations and now operates from a smaller space on the first floor of the mall.

It offers the full range of Primark merchandise including menswear, womenswear, kidswear and home and is the company's seventh store in the US. It first entered the US market in 2015 with a store in Boston and three further US stores are planned in South Shore Plaza (Braintree, Massachusetts), American Dream (East Rutherford, New Jersey) and Kings Plaza (Brooklyn, New York).

Primark, which trades in its home market of Ireland as Penneys, has around 320 stores across Europe and the US and employs 60,000 staff.
