Pioneering leak-proof underwear brand Modibodi appoints new Executive Director

Global leak-proof apparel company Modibodi has appointed Kerry Cusack as Executive Director, who now sits at the helm of the global team at the head office in Sydney, Australia.

Founded in 2013, and acquired by Essity in 2022, Modibodi pioneered leakproof apparel for periods and incontinence including underwear, swimwear, activewear and maternity wear. The goal? To help people stay comfortable and active during their period, whilst making a positive environmental impact.

Modibodi’s Modifier Technology creates a soft top layer, which absorbs moisture and sweat. Along with a quick-drying absorbent microfibre middle layer, that locks away fluid and odour. The bottom layer then adds additional waterproof protection.

Cusack succeeded Kristy Chong, who stepped down after selling the brand to Swedish health company Essity for £109 million ($140 million) in July 2022.

Kerry Cusack commented: "I am delighted to be joining the Modibodi team. As category leaders and innovators, Modibodi has redefined leakproof apparel and created a business built on trust and authenticity, designing sustainable products with the needs of the consumer at their very heart whilst breaking stigmas and taboos. It’s these values that attracted me to the brand and I am looking forward to building on Modibodi’s success and continuing to deliver strong growth globally."

She brings a wealth of leadership experience to her new role, previously holding the positions of Chief Commercial Officer with Alquemie Group and Head of International Business for Retail Apparel Group. Cusack also built her very own apparel business, Bondi Bather Swimwear, from the ground up.

Caitlin Patterson, Executive General Manager of Retail Essity Australasia and Advisory Board Member Modibodi, commented: "Modibodi continues to go from strength to strength as an innovator and leader in absorbent apparel with strong growth in local and international markets and we are confident that Kerry is perfectly placed to lead and develop the Modibodi brand and organisation to continue its stellar trajectory."

Last year, the company gained global recognition after partnering with sportswear brand Puma on a range of leak-free period underwear and activewear.
