Mike Ashley explores bid for Sheffield’s Meadowhall

Mike Ashley's Frasers Group is considering a bid for Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield as it continues to invest in UK retail property.

The group is "one of a handful of parties" to have registered an interest in Meadowhall, according to The Times.

The shopping centre was put up for sale by owners British Land and Norges Bank last year, with a reported asking price of £750 million.

Spanning 1.4 million sq ft, Meadowhall features 290 stores from both independent and international brands, 50 places to eat and drink, and an 11-screen cinema. There’s also 12,000 free parking spaces and direct access via rail, road and tram.

Its current tenants include H&M, JD Sports, Boots and Marks & Spencer, as well as Frasers-owned Flannels and Sports Direct.

The move further demonstrates Fraser's ongoing investment and commitment to the long-term future of physical retail in the UK.

Last year, the group purchased The Mall in Luton for £58 million. It also bought the Overgate Centre in Dundee for £30 million and outlet shopping centre Junction 32 for £50 million.
