Leonardo DiCaprio invests in vegan sneaker brand LØCI

Actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio has been confirmed as a strategic investor at the British-based vegan sneaker brand LØCI.

The Oscar-winning actor became a climate activist when he met US Vice President Al Gore in 1998, to discuss the threats of global warming. This landmark moment for the actor continues to fuel his future interests and investments, such as the £4 million seed round in the vegan sneaker label LØCI.

DiCaprio commented: “I am proud to be an investor in LØCI, a brand dedicated to minimizing its environmental impact and centered around creating cruelty-free, ethical footwear.”

Each pair of unisex shoes is crafted from 20 bottles of plastic harvested from the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Coast of Africa that were bound for land-fill sites and 10% of the proceeds are donated to planet-protecting causes.

The transparent and sustainable brand has attracted consumers concerned with sourcing environmentally friendly options. What’s more, they’re made by hand in a Portuguese boutique monthly to curb manufacturing waste and its environmental impact.

DiCaprio’s financial investment helps to “enable the young, creative label to amplify its mission to a wider global audience, driving awareness and shining a light on the causes that matter while LØCI continues to make waves in the fashion industry.”

Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Philippe Homsy, added: “The impact of having high profile investors behind a brand is unparalleled in terms of the visibility and association they provide. Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the world’s highest profile individuals and has dedicated himself to activism for environmental causes – making him the perfect partner for a brand as motivated by positive impact as we are at LØCI.”
