Jigsaw partners with FareShare to tackle food waste this festive season

Jigsaw has partnered with FareShare, a UK charity tackling food waste to support social good, this festive season.

FareShare works with the food industry to take good-to-eat surplus food, which might otherwise go to waste, and redistribute it to a network of 8,500 charities and community groups across the UK.

Demand for food from FareShare has skyrocketed and is expected to rise over the course of this winter, making the partnership with Jigsaw "more important than ever".

Jigsaw customers are being encouraged to donate when they shop online or in-store, and staff are actively volunteering their time to work in FareShare’s regional centres.

Jigsaw staff are also being encouraged to come up with creative ways to fundraise internally - including raffles and sweepstakes.

Polly Bianchi, Director of Fundraising at FareShare, said: "We are delighted that Jigsaw has decided to support FareShare this Christmas.

"Every person who donates will be helping to get good-to-eat food, which might otherwise go to waste, to people who need it.

"Our network of 8,500 local charities across the UK, which include homelessness shelters, afterschool clubs, and older people’s lunch clubs, will be working harder than ever this festive season, supporting people facing food insecurity and loneliness.

"We’re hugely grateful to all the Jigsaw staff who are giving their time this winter to help volunteer in our depots and engage in further fundraising. The support of customers and staff will go a long way to help those facing isolation access vital support services and bring people together through food this winter."
