In Pictures: the Sindiso Khumalo x & Other Stories vibrant collab has arrived

Global fashion retailer & Other Stories is collaborating with the "unapologetically bold, bright and feminine" South African brand Sindiso Khumalo. 

2015-founded Sindiso Khumalo is known for its colour and prints, sustainable textiles and a strong emphasis on African history.

Sindiso Khumalo commented: "As an African designer, what truly matters to me is designing clothing that can highlight my African heritage and history and bring it to light in a contemporary setting. I like to bring cultural elements that represent who I am into textiles. They become visual vignettes that frame our collections.

"The starting point for the co-lab collection was working with materials that were sourced in a more sustainable way. It’s essential for me to use more sustainable materials and to create garments that are going to be long-lasting."

Sindiso Khumalo and & Other Stories have created a vibrant collection drawing inspiration from the South African brand’s cultural and natural landscape. Prints include native imagery such Protea, a South African indigenous plant, and Nguni cattle, which are seen among the Nguni people of Southern Africa.

The collection, which was announced in January, includes ready-to-wear, swimwear and accessories, all made with eco-friendly materials such as organic cotton, recycled cotton, linen, and recycled brass.

Each fashion silhouette was inspired by vintage portraits from the 1800s of women from Africa. As for accessories, think sarongs, raffia and statement jewellery.
