In pictures: Inside Liberty's new menswear department

Liberty has taken the wraps off its hotly anticipated new menswear department, the revamp of which represented the biggest investment in the store's 142-year history.

Design practice Daytrip worked with Liberty on the remodelling of the space, which has been extended to reveal historical features and now includes a new specialist barber, Ruffians, and some 20 new brands.

Taking inspiration from the store founder Arthur Lasenby Liberty's vision of an emporium with items displayed in comfortable surroundings, the space is designed to reflect an "eclectic home" with rooms centred around fireplaces and decorated with objets and art.

Artist Stephen Doherty was commissioned to create a mural that spans all of the pillars of the central gallery, while a previously unused staircase now provides direct access to the department from the Great Marlborough Street entrance.

New areas include a dedicated space for Japanese brands, a t-shirt gallery and a refreshed denim department and new brands on offer include Matthew Miller, OAMC, Helbers, James Tanner and Ten C. while Marni and Helmut Lang make a return to the store.
