In Pictures: Dr. Martens’ new collaboration with Alpha Industries

Dr. Martens and Alpha Industries have come together on a new collaboration collection, launching on 9 November 2023.

Classic design elements from Dr. Martens’ iconic 1460 boot and Alpha Industries’ MA-1 nylon flying jacket have been merged to create something unique.

The Dr. Martens 1460 ‘Ben’ boot has been given a modern workwear upgrade with smooth leather and nylon across the upper. And the Dr. Martens ‘Tarik’ boot – a more street inspired silhouette with chunkier AirWair sole – has been remastered in smooth leather and nylon with an added zip-up pocket on the ankle, a nod to the distinctive MA-1 sleeve pocket.

There’s also a removable Alpha Industries pull tab – a feature taken directly from the MA-1, and Dr. Martens’ instantly recognisable yellow stitching.

As well as the boots, there is a collaboration backpack which again mixes smooth leather and nylon, with added pockets and the Alpha Industries pull tab.

The first Dr. Martens 1460 boots rolled off the production line of British shoe manufacturer R. Griggs on 1 April 1960, while Alpha Industries was founded just seven months earlier in October 1959 in Knoxville, Tennessee, making its MA-1 jackets under contract to the US Air Force.

The accompanying campaign for the collaboration launch includes a video featuring Lloyd Clipston, the drummer of eclectic London alternative band Powerplant.
