Ebay expands luxury offering with new ‘Certified by Brand’ platform

Ebay has launched its new ‘Certified by Brand’ program, partnering directly with brands to scale their presence in the secondary market, whilst providing shoppers access to a wider selection of luxury watches, handbags, and jewellery.

Through this program, new and pre-owned exclusive 'only on eBay' inventory from brands such as Konstantin Chaykin, Zodiac Watches and Le Vian will be available. This initiative complements eBay's Authenticity Guarantee to deliver a more trusted marketplace.

With nearly 28 years of expertise, eBay continues to drive trust in its broad selection of luxury goods on a global scale. Programs like Authenticity Guarantee have had a significant impact since the service was first introduced. Luxury- focused categories have had approximately double-digit annualised growth since Q4 2019.

The secondary market for premium and luxury goods grew significantly in 2022, propelled by consumer enthusiasm for collecting as well as making eco-friendly shopping choices. There were over 170K watches, over 100K handbags and over 1 million jewellery average daily listings in 2022.

Following a higher demand for second-hand items, Ebay's Certified by Brand program was born to provide brands and brand-authorized sellers to access of the platform's 133 million active buyers.

Tirath Kamdar, Global GM of Luxury at Ebay, commented: "Certified inventory in the resale market is an undeniable opportunity for brands and authorized retailers, and Ebay is the ideal partner for those looking to scale. Ebay's Certified by Brand program broadens access to both buyers and brands to shop and sell luxury goods with confidence and certainty."

Listings within the program will include either "Direct from Brand" or "Brand Authorized Seller" labelling and information, making it easy for buyers to identify listings in the program.

Certified by Brand is currently available for brands and buyers located in the US, with future plans including expansion into other markets such as the UK.

This initiative is a continuation of Ebay's effort to make circular fashion more accessible. In December 2022, ACS (Advanced Clothing Solutions) partnered with Ebay, to help more brands create and scale resale offerings and give eBay UK’s 20 million customers more choices in secondhand goods.
